Finksburg Baseball or Softball Scholarship

About the scholarship

We are proud that since 2019, Finksburg Baseball and Softball began a scholarship program offering one or two scholarships for graduating seniors who have participated in our program, at any level. We have set up funding for $1,100 to be awarded each year, generated primarily by donations from our Lions Travel Players. The scholarship fund has increased since its inception due to the generosity of our community. We would like to thank the Roaring Run Lions Club for their support with the implementation.

If you are a graduating high school senior and a current or former player, please review the attached criteria and application. We are very proud of our players and look forward to seeing them advance after high school. Please spread the word to any seniors who have been involved in any form of Finksburg Baseball or Lady Lions Softball. If you'd like to make a tax-exempt donation specifically to this fund, contact us here.

2021 Finksburg Baseball & Softball Scholarships

I'm proud to announce that for 2021, we are awarding two $550 scholarships for graduating seniors. Starting in 2019, with funding from our travel baseball program, we are awarding scholarship money for players who have participated in our program and are continuing their education after graduating from high school. This year we were able to increase the scholarships due to the generosity of one of our former coaches.

For this year, we had a strong pool of applicants, and the closest overall scores we have seen yet. Receiving our awards are Gracie Gscheidle, from the Lady Lions, and Dalton Mount, from the Lions Travel Baseball Program. These candidates won based on preset criteria of GPA, years in our program, service hours, and an essay about how playing Finksburg Baseball helped them grow.

Gracie played with the Lady Lions for 9 years, and is now playing Varsity Ball at WHS. I remember her for being on the 14U team that went to the USSSA championships and won out in 18U in 2018. You might want to read that twice. Also, of note, she was on the front page of the CC Times sports section recently. Gracie is headed to Stevenson University in the fall.

Dalton played Finksburg Baseball for 13 years since he was 4. He played Lions Travel Ball on Joe Griffin's team which had quite a nice run through the league and is now playing Varsity Ball at WHS. He's still playing in our program on our 22u travel team. Dalton cites winning rec ball championships in 9/10 minors and hitting a walk-off RBI in the 13u MABA championship as fond memories, but I recall he had a pretty cool trip to Cooperstown as well. He is heading off to Waynesburg University in the fall and is expecting to play ball there.
